LATINA/O STUDIES. The Department of American Culture and the program in Latina/o Studies (LS) at the University of Michigan seek qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or early Associate Professor for areas of research within Latina/o/x studies, particularly for a person with expertise in Afro-Latina/o/x, Indigenous Latina/o/x, Central Americans, or South Americans. The ideal candidate will possess cross-cutting interests in teaching topical courses aligned with Latina/o/x studies and employ a multidisciplinary approach that situates Latina/o/x studies in a discipline (literature, history, visual studies, migration, etc.) or interdisciplinary field (gender and sexuality studies, American studies, race studies, new media, digital studies, etc.) to produce original and innovative scholarly insights. The search committee will consider scholars who incorporate comparative and transnational frameworks in relation to the U.S. and its influences within/outside the nation-state directly related to Latina/o/x subjects, their communities, cultural productions, histories, or imaginaries.
Applicants must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and research. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline in the arts, humanities, or social sciences is required prior to appointment. This is a university-year appointment with an expected start date of August 25, 2025.
