The School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC) at ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY seeks applications for an Instructor in the area of German Culture and Language Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower and upper division German cultural and language courses in German, both in-person and online, to hold office hours and work closely with the program director and coordinator to update class materials and assignments, and to promote the German program. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in myths and fairy tales, global/transnational studies, or food and sustainability studies.
This is an in-person, full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on an academic year basis. A typical full- time course load is 15 credit hours per academic semester, with a mix of upper and lower division, online and in-person courses. Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, the needs of the university, and sufficient enrollment in assigned courses.
Anticipated start date is January 6, 2025 (spring semester) academic year 2024-2025.

Minimum Qualifications:
• M.A. in German Studies, or related field, by time of appointment;
• Evidence of three years of effective Higher Education German language and culture teaching;
• Fluent in both German and English;
Desired Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in German Studies or related fields;
• Research background in one or more of the following subject areas: myths and fairy tales, global/transnational studies, food studies and sustainability studies;
• Demonstrated experience with teaching methodologies and higher education instructional design/development;
• Demonstrated experience in German program promotion and outreach, on campus and in the community;
• Demonstrated experience with in-person and online teaching in higher education.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter
