The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) starting August 16, 2024. This is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track position with full benefits. The initial appointment is for 1 year.
Responsibilities include teaching graduate and advanced undergraduate classes in Applied Linguistics/TESOL with a teaching assignment of 3-3. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach a variety of courses including but not limited to topics such as English as a Second Language Linguistics, English as a Second Language Methods, and Language Assessment. The position primarily supports students completing their M.A. in TESOL. The program prepares teachers to teach English as a second language in an English-speaking setting as well as English as a foreign language in countries around the world. The program includes 30 hours of coursework focusing on language, linguistics, literature and culture in conjunction with different aspects of teaching English, while balancing both the theoretical and practical aspects of TESOL.
WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area. Required qualifications include a minimum of an M.A. in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment; expertise in appropriate research methods; demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching; abilities in course development, including online course development; and excellent communication skills in English.
