The Department of English at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in nineteenth-century British literature, with a specialty in ecocriticism, the environmental humanities, and/or the energy humanities. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in literature of the entire nineteenth century, but special attention will be given to applicants with expertise in the period from 1790 to 1860. The position will involve the development of new undergraduate and graduate courses with an environmental focus and contributions to the development of a program or certificate in the environmental humanities. The search committee will look for an established publication record or the promise of excellent publication as well as evidence of effective teaching, preferably with the use of digital platforms.
