JOB SUMMARY:
The English Department at Adelphi University invites qualified candidates to apply for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professorship to begin in August 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The successful candidate will be a published writer and effective teacher who will teach 18 credits across the academic year 2024-5.
- The course load is 18 credits (3-3) for the academic year including appropriate departmental responsibilities.
- They will teach a multi-genre curriculum to a diverse student population, offering workshop and literature classes in the in-person undergraduate program and participating in the launch of Adelphi's new low-residency MFA program.
- Although all genres are welcome, preference will be given to poets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A terminal degree and experience teaching at the university level is required.
2. Experience teaching in low-residency or distance learning modalities is also desirable.
3. We are strongly committed to achieving excellence through cultural diversity and are seeking candidates who are committed to teaching undergraduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

SALARY INFORMATION:
In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $77,000 - $78,500. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
