The Department of Spanish, Latina/o and Latin American Studies at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for a tenure-track position with a specialization in Afro-Latin American and/or Indigenous Latin American histories and cultures, to begin July 1, 2025. We seek a scholar and teacher who anchors humanistic inquiry in historical and sociocultural contexts (social movements, environmental issues, artivism, diaspora, migration, etc.). Our new colleague would ideally strengthen our department’s collaboration with other academic departments such as History; International Relations; Environmental Studies; Critical Race and Political Economy; Film, Media and Theater; and Gender Studies.
The candidate must have a record of teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, and ability. The teaching load for this position is four courses per year, and the successful candidate is expected to teach at all levels of the curriculum in Spanish, with the likelihood of teaching one or two courses in English per year (for example, “Intro to Latin American History and Cultures”). Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English is required. ABD or PhD is a requirement.
Candidates must submit a cover letter, CV, and three statements concerning (1) teaching philosophy, (2) research interests, and (3) mentoring a diverse student body. Reference letters will be requested at a later date in the process. The deadline for submitted material is October 11, but all applications will be considered until the position is filled. Questions regarding the position should be directed to the chair of the search committee, Justin Crumbaugh.
