The Department of English invites applications for the position of assistant professor specializing in global Anglophone literatures within and across the Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Caribbean, and/or the Americas beginning July 1, 2025. PhD or ABD required. Our recruitment for this position aims to attract applicants who employ postcolonial, transnational, and comparative approaches that situate Anglophone literatures in a global frame, and that displace the centrality of U.S. and British literatures. We welcome expertise in additional fields of study, such as media studies, critical race studies, disability studies, ecocriticism, queer and trans studies, among others.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, and religion. Tenure-track candidates are required to submit statements concerning (1) teaching philosophy, (2) research interests, and (3) mentoring a diverse student body. Reference letters and sample syllabi will be requested at a later date in the process. Review of applications will begin September 20, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. Questions regarding the position should be directed to the chair of the search committee, Iyko Day.
