Assistant Professor, East Asian Languages and Cultures

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) at Stanford University seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Trans-Asian studies, open to any period, with a primary focus on Korea. We welcome applicants with expertise in humanities fields including, but not limited to, literature, art, architecture, urban studies, performance studies, religious studies, visual culture, Asian diaspora studies, gender studies, digital humanities, or media studies. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a commitment to research, teaching, and advising. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2025.

  • a research and teaching statement (no more than three single-spaced pages each)
  • at least three letters of recommendation
  • a writing sample (up to 10,000 words)

The salary range for this position is $ $108,000 - $127,000, for academic year 2024–25.  

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
