The English Department at Tufts University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to begin September 2025.
Candidates may have a research focus in any aspect of 20th and 21st-Century Anglophone poetry and poetics, with preference given to candidates whose interests and expertise not only include poetry from North America, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, but who address English-language poetry from around the globe, including Africa, Australia, the Caribbean, and South Asia. We seek candidates whose work has a global reach, considering the field of Anglophone poetry and poetics in its increasingly international context. Formalist and/or philosophical approaches to poetry and poetics are welcome. Secondary attention to other genres and diverse medial forms is also welcome. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, to mentor students writing senior theses and doctoral dissertations, and to participate in advising and other faculty responsibilities at the departmental and university level.
For additional information, applicants may contact Department Administrator Lauren Jo Alicandro at lauren_jo.alicandro@tufts.edu. Review of applications begins October 15, 2024, and continues until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted on Zoom in December 2024.
Qualifications: Ph.D. must be awarded by August 2025. Evidence of ongoing scholarly activity and successful teaching experience required. All offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a background check.
Application Requirements: a letter of application; CV; a writing sample (no more than 25 pages); and three letters of recommendation, submitted directly by the authors and uploaded to Interfolio. The English Department takes Tufts’ commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution seriously and invites dialogue on our continuing efforts to promote diversity, equity, and justice towards this collective goal. All materials must be submitted through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/152029.
