Assistant Professor of German and German Studies

Assistant Professor of German and German Studies – Tenure-track appointment with teaching assignment (six courses per year) at all levels of the curriculum, potentially including core curricular offerings in English. Responsibilities also include collaboration in an established summer study abroad program. Position begins August, 2020.

Requirements: Ph.D. in German Studies (preferred), Germanic Languages and Literatures, Second Language Acquisition with a focus in German, or a related field. While the research specialization is open, optimal candidates will be dedicated to creating synergies between their scholarly agenda and undergraduate instruction. Native or near-native fluency in German and a record of outstanding and enthusiastic language teaching at elementary and/or intermediate levels are essential, as is the ability to recruit, retain, and mentor German Studies majors and minors from a range of interdisciplinary backgrounds. Experience or exceptionally strong potential in innovative German Studies course design and delivery, in creative promotion of the discipline and major, and in the pedagogy of Language for Specific Purposes (such as business- or STEM-focused curricular offerings) are highly desirable.
