Description
The Creative Writing Program at Stony Brook University's Lichtenstein Center seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Fiction. Candidates should have a strong record of publication, with a published novel or short story collection from a respected press and evidence of promise for future recognition in the field.
This position carries a 2/2 teaching load of creative writing workshops and literature-based craft courses, as well as graduate and undergraduate thesis direction on two of our three campuses. Undergraduate courses are held at Stony Brook; graduate courses are held in Southampton and Manhattan. The candidate should have evidence of successful teaching on the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
Creative Writing and Literature is a core program in the Lichtenstein Center, an entrepreneurial, innovative constellation of disciplines spanning three campuses. In addition to an MFA, BFA, and Minor in Creative Writing, the Center offers MFAs and Minors in both Film and Television Writing. During July, the Southampton Writers Conference hosts workshops for visiting students. Regular readings and events bring writers, filmmakers, showrunners, and industry professionals to all three campuses. TSR: The Southampton Review, the Creative Writing graduate program's literary magazine, publishes original writing and artwork from established and emerging voices. Sandpiper is its online undergraduate literary magazine. The program also has a one-year post-MFA, BookEnds, for manuscript development.
The deadline is Nov 1, 2024. The term of appointment is expected to begin September 1, 2025.
