Description

The Department of Romance Languages at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Spanish at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2025.

The position offers a candidate committed to undergraduate liberal arts education the opportunity to teach in a unique content-based curriculum enhanced by a January term abroad, a languages-across-the-curriculum program, and area and interdisciplinary studies. Teaching responsibilities include all levels of Spanish language and major-level courses as they relate to the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Specialization in Hispanic sociolinguistics, with emphasis in languages in contact, language and identity, Spanish in the U.S., or cultural studies desired. Experience with heritage learner teaching, service learning/academic civic engagement, and/or Spanish in the professions would be an asset. The successful candidate is expected to pursue high quality scholarly activity and contribute to the life of the department and the college.

Qualifications
Ph.D. in Spanish completed by start of fall semester; native or near-native fluency in Spanish; sustained residency in a Spanish-speaking country; and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Spanish at St Olaf is a dynamic program focused on content-based learning and high impact practices in language learning. We are dedicated to helping students see themselves as multi-competent Spanish speakers who are part of a Spanish-speaking community, one in which they may take pride as multilingual users of Spanish. In addition, we are determined to cultivate Spanish within an interdisciplinary context, linking Spanish more firmly to other disciplines (environmental studies, economics, history, linguistics, literature, sociology and more).
