The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Italian to begin August 2025.

The successful candidate will demonstrate scholarly excellence in Medieval and/or Renaissance Italian literature and culture as evidenced by a strong publication record, and a commitment to both graduate and undergraduate teaching.

Duties for the position include teaching, research, and service. Research and teaching in the Italian program at Notre Dame range from the Middle Ages to the present and colleagues are expected to contribute across the curriculum. Standard teaching loads include two courses per semester for a total of four courses per academic year. Additional responsibilities, including service, will be determined in consultation with the Department Chair.


Qualifications:
The successful candidate will demonstrate aptitude for program leadership in the Italian Studies Program https://italianstudies.nd.edu/. A Ph.D. in Italian, Romance Studies, or a closely related field is required, but candidates who are ABD at the time of application will be considered. Native to near native fluency in Italian is also required.
