The Department of Writing Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami invites applications for two tenure-eligible faculty positions to begin August 15, 2025. The first position is Open Rank and the second is at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. For both positions we seek colleagues with scholarly expertise in Professional and Technical Writing. Candidates with interest and/or experience in writing program administration are also encouraged to apply.
The Department of Writing Studies is the twenty-first department in the College of Arts and Sciences and was approved by the University of Miami Board of Trustees in January 2022. In addition to housing the first-year writing program, the department offers courses in professional writing, leadership and innovation, science writing, legal writing, and civic and community engagement. The department has also successfully launched an innovative, forward-looking Minor in Professional Writing. As well, the department oversees the University’s Writing Center, which coordinates writing enriched curriculum efforts for the university community.
Candidates will also have an opportunity to teach in the College of Arts and Sciences’ exciting new co-major in Innovation and Society. Innovation and Society infuses design thinking and data science as core competencies within a liberal arts framework that centers the needs of humans facing significant global challenges. The co-major emphasizes experiential learning, critical making, and equitable and inclusive design practices in pursiut of solving problems with/in community.
Qualifications
•Ph.D. in Writing and Rhetoric, Technical and Professional Communication, Composition and Rhetoric, or closely related field, in hand by August 15, 2025
•A robust research agenda in writing and rhetoric studies
•Evidence of equitable and inclusive teaching excellence at the college level, especially with diverse student populations
•A publication record commensurate with rank
