The Literature and Creative Writing Department offers innovative concentrations and minors in creative writing and literatures composed in or translated into English, across temporal and geographical categories. The department, one of the College’s largest, consists of 15 tenured and pre-tenure faculty, who teach and do scholarly and creative work in a wide variety of genres, fields and forms. We take a broad, intermedial view of literary and cultural inquiry; many of us pursue comparative and interdisciplinary work that engages book history, critical media studies, philosophy and intellectual history, sound studies, translation studies, or visual culture studies, from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Because we are a department that both studies and creates literature, we require students within both majors to do work in creative practice as well as literary and cultural analysis.
