Position Description

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Baylor University seeks to hire a full-time, regular Lecturer of Spanish with an emphasis in Spanish for Heritage Speakers to begin in Fall 2025. This appointment is a renewable, benefits-eligible, teaching-focused position with a promotion path to Senior Lecturer for successful candidates and to Teaching Professor for highly successful candidates (see: Policy on Full-Time Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Teaching Professors at Baylor University).

Qualifications

  • M.A. in Spanish required; Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics or a related field preferred.
  • The ability to contribute to curriculum development and program oversight for our Spanish for Heritage Speakers program is strongly desired.
  • The successful candidate will show evidence of excellent teaching abilities, have ample experience teaching Spanish courses to both Heritage speakers and Second-Language learners, and demonstrate familiarity with current research on Spanish as a Heritage Language and Heritage language pedagogy.
  • Experience in course or program coordination desired.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English is required.

  • copy of the transcript from highest-degree granting institution (unofficial copy acceptable for application; if the Ph.D. is in progress, a copy of the official transcript of completed Ph.D. hours should also be submitted), and
