The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa seeks to hire a Spanish language fiction writer to form part of the MFA in Spanish Creative Writing program. The ideal candidate will be a recognized writer with an outstanding publishing record and with experience teaching creative writing workshops. Responsibilities include teaching graduate creative writing workshops for the MFA in Spanish Creative Writing Program, supervising MFA theses, and teaching introductory undergraduate creative writing workshops along with undergraduate Latin American literature courses. The teaching load is four courses per academic year. The appointment will be a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, effective August 20, 2025.

Education Requirement:
PhD in Spanish or closely related field, or MFA in Creative Writing in hand by the start date, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
A publication record in fiction commensurate with an international reputation.
Experience teaching creative writing workshops.
Ability to teach undergraduate classes in Latin American literature.
Desirable Qualifications:
Significant publication record in non-fiction writing.
Expertise in gender studies or translation related to Latin American literature.
