The Department of English at Texas State University invites applicants for a full-time (nine-month) tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor to begin in Fall 2025. Texas State University is a federally recognized Hispanic-Serving Institution.

The successful candidate will teach in the M.A. in Technical Communication Program at Texas State University. Duties include participation in established and growing graduate and undergraduate programs in technical communication, with graduate classes taught online and undergraduate classes taught online and face-to-face. Candidate is expected to sustain a significant, ongoing research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publication.

The typical teaching load for junior faculty in their first two years is 2/2. In the third year and beyond, the typical teaching load is 3/3 with some opportunities for course load reduction.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in technical communication or closely related field, with degree completed at time of appointment
  • A strong, ongoing record of productivity in scholarly publication and research in technical communication
  • Expertise sufficient to direct master’s theses and/or doctoral dissertations in technical communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience as a technical writer, information architect, UX designer, content strategist, or related field.
  • Research and teaching specialties in areas that diversify Texas State University’s current and proposed graduate program curricula
  • Ability to teach varied curriculum in English, including courses such as composition, editing, science writing, and document design
  • Experience teaching in online or hybrid modalities
