Assistant Professor of Instruction in Spanish

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Rochester seeks a qualified and experienced individual to begin as an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Spanish in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to our commitment to excellence in language education and demonstrate expertise in Spanish instruction at the university level. The candidate is expected to teach all levels of Spanish language courses with a teaching load of three courses a semester. This is a renewable, non-tenure-track position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach three courses per semester at various levels of Spanish language.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, incorporating innovative and effective teaching methodologies, including project-based and community-based learning.
  • Engage in continuous assessment and improvement of course objectives and materials.
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings, workshops, and academic events.
  • Provide mentorship and support to students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Serve on departmental and College committees as necessary in consultation with the Spanish program and department chair.
  • According to departmental needs and individual qualifications, contribute to required departmental courses in Comparative Literature.
  • Actively support departmental events and programs, such as study abroad, student orientation, and the language fair

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Spanish or a related field is required; a doctorate is preferred
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching Spanish at the college level
  • Proficiency in teaching all levels of Spanish courses at the undergraduate level
  • Experience in curriculum development and use of technology in language instruction
  • Familiarity with current trends in pedagogy and language acquisition

Salary range: $52,000-$70,000. The referenced pay range represents the full base range of pay for this job. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
