Assistant Professor in Creative Writing/Nonfiction (tenure-track)

Elon University invites applications for a tenure-track writer of creative nonfiction, at the assistant professor level, beginning mid-August 2025. Secondary expertise in poetry preferred. Requirements: MFA or higher, an active record of publication in top-tier journals and/or presses, and a history of innovation and excellence in undergraduate teaching. We especially seek candidates with a teaching history that demonstrates explicit engagement with, and commitment to, understanding experiences shaped by race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, dis/ability, religion, and/or class.

A successful applicant will teach the intermediate nonfiction course, as well as multi-genre introductory and upper-level creative writing courses, including senior seminar. The applicant will also teach first-year writing and interdisciplinary courses in the Elon Core Curriculum, mentor students pursuing creative thesis projects, and/or advise the campus literary journal. Other duties include academic advising, participating in department and university service, and organizing and supporting the visiting writers series. Elon’s creative writing community is close-knit and dynamic; candidates should be prepared to engage with students both in and out of the classroom. Teaching load is typically six courses per year.
