Assistant Professor: Department of Spanish and Portuguese

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialty in Latin American visual culture, film, and new media. Successful candidates must have a PhD in Latin American literatures (or closely related field) at the time of appointment. We encourage applications from candidates who study Latin American culture and media from a hemispheric, transatlantic, or transpacific lens. We also welcome inventive blends of teaching and research with public humanities (including digital humanities) work and community engagement as well as candidates whose disposition to participate in the life of the department through service might strengthen the department’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, and the ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in curricular and experiential contexts are also required. We especially welcome applications from candidates of underrepresented groups, whose backgrounds, experience, and approaches contribute to our aims for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Pending budgetary approval, the position will begin in fall 2025.

The committee will begin looking at applications on October 31, 2024, but will continue to accept materials until the position is filled.  Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, two or three writing samples, teaching evaluations (if available), a description of how your research, teaching, or service demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and contact information for a minimum of three references whom will receive an email notification with instructions about submitting their letters. \
