Description:
The English Department at The College of Wooster invites applications for a tenure-track position in pre-1900 American literature (early and/or 19th century) at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2025, pending final administrative approval. We particularly welcome expertise in African American literature, comparative studies of the Americas, Indigenous studies, disability studies, and/or environmental studies. We seek contributions to one or more of the college’s interdisciplinary programs, including Environmental Studies, Global Media and Digital Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Africana Studies, and/or Latin American Studies.
Depending on the successful candidate’s specialization, courses would include introductory and survey courses, upper-level courses in the field of specialization, as well as advising undergraduate research projects as part of the College’s signature Senior Independent Study (I.S.) program. All faculty teach courses designed for non-majors and contribute to the First-Year Seminar Program. The teaching load is 5.5 courses per year (which includes credited mentoring for student I.S. projects along with 2-3 or 3-2 semester courses).
Ph.D. in English or comparable field is required.
The College of Wooster is an independent college of the liberal arts and sciences with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education.
