Tibetan Language and Culture. NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY and the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures invite applications for a full-time, benefits eligible, non-tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Instruction in Tibetan Language and Culture to begin September 1, 2025. Duties include a six-course teaching load (typically two courses per quarter) at all levels of instruction. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. degree by the time of appointment and native or near-native proficiency in both Tibetan and English. All areas of expertise within Tibetan Language and Culture are welcome, including historical and modern literature, as well as works centering Buddhism and other aspects of Tibetan culture. Teaching experience in U.S. higher education is a plus.

Salary
The expected base pay range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000.
This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation.
