The Florida State University English Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Medieval Literature and Culture to begin in Fall 2025. The successful candidate should have research and teaching expertise in Old English and in the History of the English Language. An additional research/teaching area in the later Middle Ages is an asset. They would also be expected to offer a range of courses in early English literature and language and to be part of the rotation of teaching the department’s Literary History 1 (pre-1800) survey required of Literature majors. We are open to a range of methodological approaches and our aim is to identify exceptional scholarship. However, we are particularly interested in multilingual, comparative, and interdisciplinary approaches that connect Anglo-Saxon literature and culture with the rest of the world.
FSU is committed to maintaining a diverse and inclusive campus community that welcomes all faculty, staff, and students. In keeping with this commitment, we strive to promote a climate and culture that is inclusive of all and celebrates our differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, ability, and national origin. We strongly encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups and those who have a demonstrated commitment to fostering and promoting the values of diversity and inclusion.
Teaching assignment is two courses per semester, with one graduate course per year, plus supervision of graduate work at the MA and Ph.D. levels. Competitive salary. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment, in August 2025.
