The School of Languages and Cultures (SLC) in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana welcomes applications for the position of Lecturer in Classics to begin in January 2025. This is a full-time, continuing, benefits-eligible position. The teaching assignment is four courses per semester. The successful candidate will teach offerings across the Purdue Classics curriculum. Possible courses include Greek and Latin language, culture and history courses in topics such as classical world civilizations, classical literature, mythology, ancient medicine, religion in ancient Greece and Rome, and etymology.
In addition to teaching undergraduate courses, the Lecturer will be actively involved in various extracurricular activities of the Classics program, as arranged with the Chair of AACHI (Arabic, ASL, Classics, Hebrew and Italian), the faculty in Classics, and the SLC Head.
Qualifications: Candidates should at minimum hold an MA degree and have at least one year of teaching experience. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate excellence and experience in language instruction at the college level and be familiar with effective application of current pedagogical technologies.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Lecturer position at Purdue University is benefits-eligible with the opportunity for eventual promotion to Senior Lecturer.
