The Department of English at Bradley University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Professional Writing and Linguistics. The appointment begins August 2025.

Course assignments will include introductory linguistics and undergraduate writing, and may include English grammar, professional/technical writing, and core curriculum literature. Preference will be given to individuals with teaching, research experience, and research agenda in these fields. Experience in digital humanities and/or cultural rhetoric preferred. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help develop courses related to their specialty, and must have a willingness to engage in on-line instruction. The normal teaching load is three in-person courses per semester.

A Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric, Professional Writing, Writing Studies, Linguistics, or related field is required by the start date. 

Qualified candidates should submit: 

  • a cover letter addressing the qualifications for the position
  • curriculum vitae including a list of the number of sections taught for each course (e.g. ENG 311-Introduction to Language—two sections taught)
  • dossier (including unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts and at least three current letters of recommendation that attest to successful teaching)
  • a statement of teaching philosophy, methods and effectiveness
  • a research statement discussing intended future research activity
  • Information regarding how the candidate has or can contribute to diversity in teaching, research, or service should be provided either within the teaching and/or research statements or in a stand-alone diversity statement.
