We seek a scholar and director for the Shakespeare at Winedale program specializing in the study of Shakespeare, early modern performance, and pedagogy of performance. Founded in 1970, Shakespeare at Winedale is a summer-long residential undergraduate program whose central mission is the annual production of three Shakespeare plays in the Elizabethan-style Theatre Barn at the Winedale Historical Center in Round Top, Texas. The director is responsible for all aspects of the summer residency program and productions and holds additional pedagogical responsibility for an abridged spring version of the program as well as one additional undergraduate or graduate course on Shakespeare, theatre, or related topics. Other responsibilities include leadership and fiscal management of the Shakespeare at Winedale program; cultivation and maintenance of donor relationships; working in tandem with the department’s full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff; oversight of various outreach efforts to local schools and community organizations; and interfacing with the Briscoe Center for American History regarding the management and maintenance of the relevant Winedale Historical Center facilities. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching and service to the program, department, college, and university; a tenured position will also require high levels of research productivity.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or M.F.A. for appointment. Experience in managing a pedagogically-oriented theater program is preferred.
Application Instructions: Applicants must upload a brief (no more than two pages) letter of interest, CV, three letters of recommendation, a teaching portfolio, and an article-length writing sample of 20-30 pages (if applying for a tenured position); additional materials may be requested after initial review of applications.
The committee will begin reviewing applications November 1, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.
