Job Description Summary

Bentley University's Department of Modern Languages (ML) is inviting applications for a tenure-track position in Spanish at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates with a proven track record and interest in a leadership role within the department will be considered for the Associate Professor rank. The position is set to commence on July 1, 2025.

Bentley is committed to the teacher-scholar model where teaching, scholarship, service, and community engagement are expected and valued. We seek qualified faculty who represent diverse backgrounds, interests and talents and share a commitment to high ethical standards and a willingness to embrace challenge and change. We also look for faculty that are interested in future leadership and governance opportunities at both the departmental and university levels.

In addition to a variety of language electives, the ML Department offers the fast-growing Language, Culture, and Business (LCB) major, with specializations in Spanish, Chinese, French, or Italian, as well as minors in the languages we teach (Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish), and a Spanish for Business minor. The Department actively engages with students outside the classroom through the Center for Language and International Collaboration (CLIC). We also work closely with the Office of International Education. In addition, we are determined to cultivate world languages within an interdisciplinary context, linking them more firmly to other disciplines such as cultural studies, economics, finance, health sciences, history, literature, management, sociology, and more.

Located in suburban Boston, Bentley University is an AACSB and NECHE accredited institution that enrolls approximately 5,500 students at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Bentley is ranked at or near the top in several categories by US News & World Report, including Best Regional Universities North and Most Innovative Schools, with Bloomberg ranking Bentley in the top 20 undergraduate business programs. Bentley’s high graduation and retention rates and top-ranked Pulsifer Career Center reflects a commitment to student success and inclusiveness. With a strong faculty of teacher-scholars, Bentley strives to be a “Force for Good” through the integration of business with the arts and sciences, and a strong emphasis on ethics and social responsibility. Providing a stimulating academic community for faculty, staff, and students, Bentley supports its faculty as they pursue cutting-edge research and bring their expertise and real world understanding into the classroom.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching world languages, show evidence of scholarly excellence and recently published output, possess native or near-native fluency in Spanish, and hold a Ph.D. We seek a candidate who specializes in applied linguistics, language for specific purposes (LSP), second language acquisition, or a closely related field.
