Assistant Professor - English, Rhetoric and Writing Studies

The Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#123170) at the rank of assistant or associate professor of English in Rhetoric and Writing Studies. Start date for this position is August 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will teach advanced undergraduate courses in rhetoric and writing studies (e.g., cultural rhetorics, community writing, digital writing, technical & professional writing) in both the English Department and the interdisciplinary Public Writing and Rhetoric program; general-education courses including first-year writing and introductory technical writing; and graduate-level courses in the English Department’s MA and PhD programs. The successful candidate will also take a leadership role in expanding the university’s rhetoric and writing curriculum and must maintain an active research agenda within rhetoric and writing studies.

A Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical Communication, or a related field is required by the start date.

Candidates with any or all of the following will receive special consideration: applicants who specialize in studying and teaching the rhetoric of health and medicine, disability rhetorics, grant writing, environmental rhetorics, UI/UX, or the rhetorical traditions and writing practices of under-represented communities; demonstrated experience teaching in a variety of modalities (e.g., face-to-face, HyFlex, online asynchronous).
