Assistant Professor of Spanish/Heritage Language Education

The Department of Languages, Cultures and Translation invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 15, 2025. This is a 9-month faculty position with a salary range of $74,000-$77,000 in the area of Heritage Language Instruction/Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Required qualifications. (1) A Ph.D. in Spanish, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field with a specialization in heritage language education; (2) additional research expertise in second language learning and acquisition, teacher training and language program development, language learning and technology, language assessment, or a related field; (3) an active research agenda with publications in heritage language education and potential for external funding; and (4) an ability to teach courses in Spanish at all levels, in particular undergraduate courses for Spanish for Heritage language learners, along with upper- level and graduate courses taught within the candidate’s areas of specialization. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience teaching Spanish courses for heritage speakers. Successful candidates will be expected to teach and develop graduate and undergraduate courses for online and face-to-face delivery. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to the department, college, and university. We seek scholars whose research foci complement existing departmental strengths in translation and interpreting, literary and cultural studies, language pedagogy, applied and sociolinguistics. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage, include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the University.
