Associate Professor in Rhetoric and Composition/Director of the Writing Center The Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition at Syracuse University invites applications for an Associate Professor in rhetoric and composition who would also serve as the Director of our Writing Center. This full-time, tenured position carries a 2-2 teaching load, with one course per semester reassigned for administrative responsibilities (effective load of 1-1).Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, or related field; they should also possess demonstrable expertise in Writing Center scholarship and administration. Advanced assistants will be considered. We are open with respect to secondary areas. Potential areas of specialization include (but are not limited to): composition studies, anti-racist pedagogies, multilingual writing, research in writing across the curriculum/writing in the disciplines, and/or community literacies. Our department is also home to an established Writing and Rhetoric major, a minor in Writing and Rhetoric, and a minor in Professional and Technical Writing. The department also has a long history of community-engaged writing projects. The department strives to recruit and retain faculty who will further enhance our diversity and makes every attempt to support their academic, professional, and personal success while they are here. The successful candidate will share the department's and College's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racist pedagogy and be prepared to join an active research faculty who teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor doctoral students. They will demonstrate an established research trajectory and evidence of teaching/administrative excellence. The Syracuse University Writing Center is a well-established presence on campus, serving thousands of students each semester. Our experienced and talented Writing Consultants come from every departmental constituency (including tenure-line faculty); Writing Center assignments count towards teaching load for department faculty and graduate students. The Writing Center directly supports a broad range of campus efforts, including writing across the curriculum, learning communities, and specific programs for non-native speakers and underserved populations, as well as targeted assistance for departments and courses across campus and graduate students through the Graduate Editing Center.
