The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Yale University invites applications for a position of Lector or Senior Lector I of German, to begin July 1, 2025.  The appointment will be for three years with possibility of renewal depending on successful performance and ongoing curricular need. Responsibilities consist of teaching three courses per semester of beginning, intermediate and advanced language and culture courses, coordinating the beginning or intermediate language sequence, developing new advanced courses, and assisting with outreach efforts and planning of extracurricular events.

If the initial appointment is at the rank of Lector, a promotion review for Senior Lector I must take place in the fifth year or earlier. Senior lectors at Yale are expected to participate in teaching-related professional activities (e.g., workshops, seminars, training activities, conferences) and have no limits on reappointment, provided there is successful performance and ongoing curricular need.

Lectors are eligible for Yale’s generous package of benefits, including health coverage, and they are encouraged to participate in the wide range of professional development opportunities offered through the Center for Language Study, the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.
