Job Summary
The Department of English at Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota) invites applications for a full-time, tenure eligible position in Comparative or Global Literature at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2025.
The successful candidate will be qualified to teach literature courses at all levels of undergraduate work. We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
· queer and gender theory
· ecocriticism
· African-American literature
· Indigenous literature
· critical race theory
· literature of justice and sustainability
The candidate would also teach English 110, our first-year composition courses, which share common elements but leave room to be designed around each teacher’s interests.
The teaching load is three courses per semester. We seek candidates who are also pursuing an active research agenda. Concordia College is committed to increasing equity and diversity in the classroom. Applicants from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year as well as assisting the department and programs in curriculum development, revision, and evaluation.

The Department:
The English Department at Concordia College is a dynamic program that has recently revised its requirements for the Literature and Writing majors based on the following goals: Read, Inquire, Empathize, Write, and Change the World. We are focused on using literature and writing to engage students at all levels, in the Core Curriculum as well as in our majors. We are a highly interdisciplinary department, coordinating classes and programs with Women’s and Gender Studies, Global Studies, Environmental Studies, the Offutt School of Business, Education, and more. We are also a department dedicated to scholarship, with regular publications and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications
- ABD status for a Ph.D. in comparative, global, postcolonial, or similar literatures
- Evidence of strong potential for teaching excellence
- Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly, and creative activities
- Demonstrated facility with one or more of the following: queer and gender theory, ecocriticism, African-American literature, Indigenous literature, critical race theory, literature of justice and sustainability
- Training and expertise in the pedagogy of teaching writing and literature
- Willingness to serve on appropriate program, college and university committees
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in comparative, global, postcolonial, or similar literatures, completed by the start of appointment
- Demonstrated experience teaching college-level English
- Demonstrated potential to contribute to the program and form interdisciplinary partnerships
