Assistant Professor of German Studies
North Carolina State University
The Department of World Languages and Cultures at North Carolina State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in German Studies to begin in August 2025. Duties include teaching two courses per semester at the undergraduate level, both language courses and upper level topics courses on cultural studies and literature. While research specialization is open, we are particularly interested in scholars with interdisciplinary interests, such as environmental humanities,
cultural studies, gender studies, film and media studies, minority studies, science and technology studies, and many other possible fields. A demonstrated strong commitment to teaching excellence and familiarity with second language pedagogy is desired.
Participation in the intellectual life of the multilingual and multicultural department and service activities related to the department, college, and university will be expected.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in German Studies or a closely related field in hand by July 1, 2025; native, or near-native proficiency in German and English; evidence or clear promise of active engagement in research; potential for innovation in teaching courses for the German Studies major and minor, including general education courses on German Studies taught in English; familiarity with the U.S. system of higher education.

The department of World Languages and Cultures prides itself for being a collaborative and diverse group of faculty striving for academic excellence and supporting as well as innovating its undergraduate programs and graduate programs in Spanish, French, and TESOL. Our interdisciplinary German Studies program is the third  largest undergraduate section within the department; we have a successful summer study abroad program in Vienna, Austria, and are also
participating in long-standing semester exchange programs with universities in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. An honor society and a German Ambassadors Club provide students with opportunities for extracurricular engagement with Germanophone cultures.
