Assistant Professor of English: Creative Writing (Fiction)
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Department of English invites applications for the position of assistant professor of English specializing in Creative Writing (Fiction), beginning August 2025. The appointment is a 9-month tenure-track position.
Required qualifications: MFA or Ph.D. in Creative Writing with a specialization in fiction; evidence of success as a published writer including at least one book of fiction published or under contract with a nationally recognized press; a demonstrated commitment to continued creative activity; and evidence of successful university teaching. Secondary expertise in poetry is highly desirable. Teaching for this position will include graduate and undergraduate courses in Creative Writing, primarily fiction but potentially also poetry. The successful candidate will be committed to working closely with students, fully participating in and developing a thriving Creative Writing program, and engaging in community outreach. We seek candidates who can work collaboratively with faculty and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. The salary range for this position is $77,000-$80,000. The teaching load for tenure-track assistant professors in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences is 2/2, thereafter 2/2 for research-intensive tenured faculty members.
