The Department of English at the University of Florida, Gainesville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to teach in the BA and PhD programs in the field of African American Literary and Media Studies. The time period is open. Areas of specialization might include Gender and Sexuality studies, Diaspora studies, Literary and Cultural studies, Afro-Futurism and/or Afro-Pessimism, Digital Humanities, and Environmental Humanities. We are particularly interested in candidates who specialize in issues of class, gender, sexuality, and digital making. We welcome applications from all candidates with records of publication and teaching in the field. The normal teaching load in our Department is two courses per semester.

 

The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The university has a student body of over 49,000 undergraduate, graduate and first professional students, including over 14,500 minority students, and 6,000 international students.
