The English program at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in African American Literature. Time period and research interest are open. The successful applicant will teach a range of undergraduate surveys and field-specific courses, as well as graduate seminars. They will also participate in USM’s Center for Black Studies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Maintain active research and publishing agenda
  2. Teach undergraduate survey courses and graduate seminars in area of specialization
  3. Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  4. Fulfill service obligations appropriate to a tenure track faculty member
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 
 
PhD in English or related field by the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications  
 
A record of publication and scholarship as well as teaching experience. Demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
