Position Overview: The BA in English and Communications Program at the American University of Armenia (AUA) (http://aua.am/ba-english-and-communications/) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in Rhetoric/Composition or Writing Studies, starting in July 2025. Faculty positions at AUA typically involve teaching three courses per semester, engaging in program development and university service, and pursuing an active research agenda. We offer a reduced teaching load for research-active faculty for opportunities to develop research agendas, participate in cross-disciplinary collaborations, and teach in a program committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

About the English and Communications Program: The English and Communications Program at AUA introduces students to a wide range of literacies requisite to analyzing complex problems and producing innovative, creative work in the mid-21st century. Our alumni often attend graduate programs at institutions such as Harvard, Columbia, University College London, Sciences Po, or the Sorbonne.
Responsibilities
- Teach core courses in our program, including Expository Writing and Persuasive Writing.
- Develop and teach upper-division electives in rhetoric, professional writing, and/or multimodal composition.
- Engage actively in research that contributes to the fields of Rhetoric & Composition and/or Writing Studies.
- Mentor students in their academic and professional development.
- Participate in program, college, and university service activities.
- Explore opportunities to teach general education courses or contribute to one of AUA’s minor programs, such as Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, or Genocide Studies and Human Rights.
Requirements
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have experience teaching and publishing in the fields of Rhetoric & Composition and/or Writing Studies. Candidates should hold a PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, English, Writing Studies, Creative Writing, or a closely related discipline. A candidate at the assistant professor level should have some teaching experience as well as peer-reviewed publications. A candidate at the associate professor level should have substantial teaching experience and an extensive track record of peer-reviewed publications.
Candidates with Writing Center administration experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked with non-native English-speaking students, have conducted academic duties in an international context, and/or have researched or published on transnational/international writing practices. We further encourage applicants who have cultivated an active commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, social and environmental justice, anti-racism, culturally sustaining practice, and/or accessibility within their research, teaching, and service programs.

Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with the university-wide pay scale, qualifications, and experience.
