POSITION: The Associate in Arts Program (AAP) in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for a continuing-track (CT) faculty position in Spanish language instruction to begin Fall 2020 at the rank of assistant professor. As a CT faculty member, the successful candidate will hold a multi-year, renewable appointment with full benefits and have opportunities to pursue promotion and take sabbatical leaves.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will have a native or near-native fluency in both English and Spanish. Candidates should demonstrate teaching excellence among a diverse set of students in active learning environments, as well as the ability to leverage technology to support student learning, and collaborate with teams of instructors to improve teaching. The successful candidate will teach Spanish language and cultural courses at the undergraduate level on our Wilmington Campus, especially beginning and intermediate Spanish (105, 106 and 107). Candidates must have completed their PhD in Applied Hispanic Linguistics, (Second) Language Acquisition, Sociolinguistics, Bilingualism, Heritage Language Pedagogy or Language Education/ Pedagogy at the time of appointment.
The AAP, with campuses in Wilmington, Dover, and Georgetown, is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary associate degree program that includes coursework in humanities, history, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences, and languages. AAP students constitute a racially and socioeconomically diverse body of learners, the majority of whom go on to pursue majors in all seven colleges on the University of Delaware’s main campus. AAP students enjoy an uninterrupted transition from the AAP to a bachelor’s degree program in the junior year. Faculty who teach in the AAP commit a majority of their time and effort to preparing students to succeed in their transition to bachelor’s degree programs or to the workforce. Other responsibilities include student advising and university service.
