The German Section of the Department of Literatures, Cultures & Languages at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, (UConn) is seeking to hire an adjunct instructor for two undergraduate German Studies courses for the Spring 2025 semester. The courses are part of UConn’s General Education curriculum and are taught in English. Details on the courses are below. Compensation for each of the courses is $6,186.
The German Studies section at UConn is among the most vibrant and largest German programs in the country. Its faculty has an outstanding research and publication record, and the program is home to many interdisciplinary programs and projects, including the transatlantic Human Rights Research Consortium (HRRC), among others. The successful candidate will find a welcoming community of scholars, teachers, graduate students and undergraduates involved in the co-production of an innovative curriculum.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Spring semester 2025 - Jan 21, 2025, through Th, May 10
(Finals Week May 5-May 10; Spring Recess March 17-22)
GERM 1171. The German Film. (3 Credits)
Tu 5:30PM - 8:00PM
Weekly showings of German films from the twenties to the present. Introduction to film history, analysis and interpretation of films, outside readings, term papers. Reading and lectures in English. May not be used to meet the undergraduate language requirement. CA 1. CA 4-INT.
No prerequisites. Taught in English.
GERM 2400E. The Environment in German Culture. (3 Credits)
TuTh 11:00AM - 12:15PM
Ecological thinking in German culture from the Greeks (Plato) to the Greens (Amery). The second half of the semester consists of student projects on current environmental policies in the European Union. CA 1. Taught in English.
Enrollment Requirements: Open to sophomores or higher.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate(s) must have: 1) a Masters’ degree in German Studies, by the time of hire; 2) teaching experience at the university level.
