Responsibilities

Faculty Teaching and Instructing - 50
Teaching Responsibilities
*Teaching in the core, the English major (Literature concentration), and the MA English Program.
*Regular course meetings and instruction
*Mentoring Students
*Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline
*Faculty employees may also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non- majors alike

Scholarship and Professional Development - 10
Faculty are expected to conduct research and develop within the profession.
Academic Achievement/Professional Development
*Publications (editing, citations)
*Presentations at professional meetings
*Publication; peer reviewed scholarship
*Current work in circulation or in progress
*Grants received or applied for
*Membership and participation in professional organizations

Faculty Service to Institution - 10
All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college and university mission by providing service to the institution.
Service may be at the department, college, university, community and disciplinary level. Duties include service on college-level and university- level committees, advising students regarding career options, and support of department-level outreach activities.

Faculty Public Service - 5

Administrative - 25
Journal Editing -general editor of the Flannery O'Connor Review. Duties include:
*Manage the journal's budget
*Solicit and distribute O'Connor scholarship to the journals board of blind peer reviewers.
*Supervise graduate students working on the journal
*Administer the journal and O'Connor scholar research grants

Conferences and Grants- *Regularly apply for grants related to O'Connor scholarship
*Direct a conference devoted to O'Connor at least once every five years

Programming- *Liaise with the Flannery O'Connor Institute for the Humanities, Director of Historic Museums, and University Advancement to develop O'Connor programming such as book discussions, public lectures, and video/podcast series.

Three years of college teaching experience.

Three Years Liberal Arts College Teaching Experience
Three Years of experience as a general, managing, or assistant editor of a scholarly or literary journal.

Department Information

The English Department has B.A. and M.A. programs in literature, B.A. and MFA programs in Creative Writing, as well as a concentration in film. GCSU is home to the Flannery O'Connor Institute for the Humanities, and the Andalusia Farm and Interpretative Center, which maintains a house museum dedicated to O'Connor. In addition, our library maintains significant holdings of interest to O'Connor scholars in Special Collections.
