Oglethorpe University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of English and/or Comparative Literature with a focus on Global and Postcolonial Anglophone literatures to begin August 2025.

The successful applicant will have the ability to teach required courses for the major such as introductory-level global literatures and multiethnic literatures, and to develop intermediate and upper-level elective courses in postcolonial literatures. Some generalist range or the ability to teach particular sub-specialties to increase the diversity of departmental offerings desired. We especially welcome candidates with expertise in Latinx literatures, or who are prepared to make connections with one or more of Oglethorpe’s interdisciplinary programs such as African American Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Philosophy. All English department faculty also teach interdisciplinary Core “Narratives of the Self” courses that emphasize first-year writing instruction through a selection of shared texts.

An Assistant Professor typically teaches three courses (12 units) per semester on a ten-month contract, with correspondingly reasonable service and research expectations.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field in hand by June 2025 is required.
